Passenger Ship FGS Schaumburg-Lippe

Built in 1930 at the renowned Lürssen shipyard in Vegesack, the passenger ship FGS Schaumburg-Lippe is a true maritime classic with a long and fascinating history. After being acquired and restored by the Professional Sailors’ Association of Steinhude in 1966, the vessel received a major overhaul in 1990 to meet modern tourism standards. Since then, it has been a beloved part of the regular cruise and ferry service on the picturesque Steinhuder Meer. Since 2004, the Schaumburg-Lippe has operated on a scheduled route connecting Steinhude with the island of Wilhelmstein and the north shore, allowing visitors to experience the lake’s natural charm from the water. A further upgrade in 2007 included the installation of a rear bicycle carrier accommodating up to 25 bikes, making it an excellent choice for cyclists exploring the region. Measuring 19.2 metres in length and 3 metres in width, with a shallow draft of just 0.5 metres, the ship glides smoothly across the water. Powered by a single-screw 55 HP engine and cruising at around 8 knots, it offers space for 50 passengers and bicycles, combining comfort, tradition, and functionality. Today, the FGS Schaumburg-Lippe continues to enchant guests of all ages — families, groups, and individual travellers alike — providing a relaxing and scenic way to discover one of Lower Saxony’s most beautiful lake landscapes.
