In 1163 twelve monks and their abbot arrived here from Volkenroda. They decided that the area close to Luccaburg, between Schaumburger Land, the river Weser and Lake Steinhuder Meer is the ideal location for founding the Monastery of Loccum. Since then, this is a special place for pilgrims and guests. In 2013, the monastery celebrated its 850th anniversary.
