The Bergschleife route winds through a charming landscape at the Rehburger Sattel—a gentle hill rising at the edge of the North German Plain. A stop at the Bergkirchener Hütte is especially worthwhile: from this popular lookout point, a sweeping view of the Schaumburg region unfolds. On a clear day, the panorama stretches from the Steinhuder Meer all the way to Porta Westfalica. Its location at about 100 meters above sea level makes this spot a prominent landmark in the area.
The region also has a rich history to share. Traces of a long history of settlement can be found around Wölpinghausen, Bergkirchen, and Wiedenbrügge. People are said to have lived here as early as the early Middle Ages; Bergkirchen was first mentioned in historical records in the 12th century. Wiedenbrügge also looks back on a centuries-old history and is known for its vibrant village community.
