At the Ecological Protection Station Steinhuder Meer (ÖSSM), nature takes centre stage. Located in the heart of the Steinhuder Meer Nature Park, the station offers an inspiring insight into one of northern Germany’s most fascinating wetland landscapes. Expertly guided walks and eco-tours invite visitors of all ages to discover the beauty and diversity of the region first-hand. Whether exploring migratory birds, rare plants or the unique landscape of the Meerbruch wetlands, every visit opens up new perspectives on how nature and conservation come together. The interactive exhibition “Meer im Blick” provides a deeper understanding of the ecological connections in and around the Steinhuder Meer. Engaging displays and multimedia presentations showcase the station’s numerous environmental protection projects and highlight the rich biodiversity of the area. Ideal for families, school groups and individual travellers, the ÖSSM combines education with experience, offering a meaningful encounter with nature – regardless of the weather. It is a place where curiosity grows, understanding deepens and a lasting appreciation for the natural world begins.
