Millions of years ago, they were the absolute rulers of our planet - the dinosaurs. Long since extinct, they nevertheless left behind impressive traces of their existence. And in the truest sense of the word, because more than 300 of their footprints can be admired in Germany's largest open-air dinosaur museum in Münchehagen. These bear witness to the fact that around 140 million years ago, a herd of dinosaurs roamed the area on the edge of the Rehburg Mountains.
The natural monument "Dinosaur Footprints"
It is unique in Europe. Long before the ancient colossi became "fashionable" again, a special kind of museum was created around the dinosaur tracks. The 2.5-kilometre circular trail takes visitors through various geological eras and shows the evolutionary history of these fascinating giant lizards. At 45 m long and 9 m high, the Seismosaurus was the largest dinosaur in the world.
Over 300 life-size reconstructions of the prehistoric giants
But it's not just the dinosaurs themselves that can be admired, you can also look over the shoulders of the researchers as they work. You can experience first-hand how original dinosaur skeletons are painstakingly assembled by hand and the monsters brought back to life. For the little ones, the Dinosaur Museum offers numerous hands-on activities, such as the excavation of a 25-meter-long skeleton,
