The Christus Chapel in Mardorf stands at the heart of the village, a place where tranquillity and devotion meet. Still actively used for church services, this small but remarkable chapel invites visitors to pause and reflect. Its distinctive octagonal floor plan gives the building a unique architectural character rarely found in rural church design. Despite its modest size, the chapel radiates an intimate and welcoming atmosphere that makes every visit feel personal and serene. Since 2012, the Christus Chapel has also served as a “cycling church”, offering travellers on two wheels a meaningful stop along their route. It lies on a side path to the well-known Loccum–Volkenroda pilgrimage trail, connecting spiritual tradition with the simple joy of travel through the scenic Region of Hanover. Whether as a quiet retreat during a biking tour or as a cultural highlight on a journey through Lower Saxony, the chapel represents both history and harmony – a place where contemplation, community and countryside come together.
