The exceptionally well-developed loop trail around the Steinhuder Meer is particularly popular. The route, which is about 32 kilometers long, connects numerous cultural and, above all, scenic highlights. With its varied scenery and numerous opportunities for stops along the way, you can easily spend a whole day on or off the loop trail. Along the route, several information panels provide details about the nature park and the unique features of each location. They invite you to pause and take in the surroundings. The loop trail takes you by bike or on foot through diverse landscapes that frame the large lake like a sparkling gem. The landscape changes constantly: sometimes trees line the very water’s edge, while at other times expansive belts of reeds characterize the shore. Elsewhere, the gentle slope of a large dune extends into the water, forming a fine sandy beach. Shady forest sections alternate with wide wet meadows. The primeval-like alder swamp forest offers a unique nature experience, serving as a habitat for numerous songbirds and waterfowl. A boardwalk provides impressive views of this special natural landscape."
